Facebook chief Zuckerberg defends privacy stance, regrets some activities
FACEBOOK'S chief executive Mark Zuckerberg defended the company's privacy practices and expressed regret for some of his behaviour during the company's early history, speaking at the Wall Street Journal's All Things Digital technology conference yesterday.
As expected, Facebook's privacy controls and the CEO Mark Zuckerberg's views on privacy figured prominently in his Wednesday appearance at D8.
In an on-stage interview, Mr Zuckerberg continued his recent campaign to address criticism that the social network doesn't give customers proper controls over their data—criticism it moved to address by offering some simplified controls last week. Mr. Zuckerberg said a team of engineers worked non-stop for two weeks to develop the controls. He added the company is doing a "reasonable job" of giving customers control over their privacy on the social network.
The 26-year-old chief executive also addressed the personal scrutiny he has faced, including embarrassing instant-messaging conversations from the time he was starting the company in his Harvard dorm room. "When I was 18 or 19 years old I did some things that were pretty stupid," he said.
Mr. Zuckerberg began to sweat under the glare of spotlights during the wide-ranging conversation, leading him to doff his signature hoodie and revealing a company logo emblazoned on the inside.
His appearance came as news articles and books about Facebook have publicised details about the company's early history, including stories about Mr Zuckerberg facing disciplinary action for hacking into college computers. He did not indicate which stories were true, but said he regrets some episodes.
A film about the company's founding is expected out this year. Mr. Zuckerberg said he would prefer no film be made about his life during his lifetime.
Facebook is approaching 500 million users, he said, growth that has fuelled investor speculation about the possibility the company will go public. Asked if he would remain CEO after the company goes public, Mr Zuckerberg said yes, but added that he didn't know when that might be.
Mr. Zuckerberg reiterated his excitement about several new products Facebook has announced, including a controversial service that allows third-party websites to show users information about their Facebook friends. While the service, called "instant personalisation," is in a very limited test, it has drawn criticism from privacy advocates who argue that it operates behind users' backs.
He said that he thinks eventually all websites will offer similar personalisation. "A few years from now we'll look back and wonder why there was this time when all these websites weren't personalised," he said. "The world is moving in this direction where everything is designed around people."
He also said that he sees lots of potential for the company to innovate around search, stating that the social network fields search queries on a similar scale as industry giant.

argumantative essay-television-draft 1
Television program is a tool that was designed to demand undivided attention(Alexander 2001).An estimation show that 90% of household in developed countries have at least one television set (Sharif 1999).So,it can be said that almost everyone can watch television at home.Statistic shows that watching television have been the highest time taker for leisure and sports activities time (American time use survey 2003).This means television have really big influence on it's viewer.Debated have occur whether television programs brings positive or negative effects. For me,television give more negative effects towards human.
First, watching unsuitable program can caused affects on development of thinking process(Sharif 1999).Especially when children watch it alone without guidance from the elder.Children are at a process to shape their mind about world(Sharif 1999).Watching programs that contains violence, may caused children to think violence is part of life and it is an alternative way to solve problems(Sharif 1999).Watching too much programs that present short but attractive segment can caused tendency for children to have a very short attention towards something(Sharif 1999).
Apart from influencing children mind, television program can also influenced children behavior.Imitating character can lead to poor behavior(Sharif 1999).All these stretotypes influence children in their behavior towards themselves and others(Sharif 1999).Children,who is actually learning how to solve problems, might be fooled by a television programs who solved the problem within 30 minutes. They might have a thinking that all problems can be solved easily(Sharif 1999).But,when it comes to the real life, they might become frustated and give up easily when they fails to solve problems(Sharif 1999).
Next on the list about negative effects of television program is it can caused difficulty in communication among family members(Rutherford 2002).This happen when the family have their meals in front of television. Some of the fanatic viewers of television programs might suffer withdrawal symptoms when they did not watch their favorite progams(Rutherford 2002).Watch television can be harmful if it is watched with an exclusion of other activities. When is indulged with snacks,it may caused obesity and related disease(Rutherfor 2002).
In a nut shell,I strongly believe that watching television have negative effects like behavior problems, thinking problems, communication problems and health problems. So,its better for us to watch less television program and do more activities.

junk food-final draft
Junk food is defined as food that is unhealthy and have low nutritional value(Family Joural 2005).Junk food have been related to many problems like health and behaviour. The problems seems more serious among the teenagers. Statistic shows that most of the foods consumed at home by 12-14 years old Australian Children consist a lot of fat and sugar more than recommended intake (Australian Nutrition Journal 2004).Teenagers usually get their junk food from school canteen. So,an issue have arise whether the selling of junk food should be banned or not?I absolutely agree it should be banned as it caused health problem, triggers behavioural problem and leads to litter problem.
One of the reason is that Junk food caused health problems. It contains a lot of fat, salt and sugar(Family Journal 2005).All this ingredients can cause obesity.Another ingredient in junk food that is found to be a threat is chemical addictives. Most of this substances can cause behavioural problems like hyperactive and poor concentration(Family Journal 2005).In addition, childhood obesity can lead to future cases of heart disease, osteoarthtitis and some cancers.
Students that have large proportion of junk food in their food intake will not managed to get nutrients they need for healthy developement and growth, and thus their learning potential is reduced(Caputo 2005).More worsen to this fact is most youngster nowadays have less participate in physical activities.Statistic show 18% of Australian school students never involved in physical activities and 40& only involves in weekend(Weekend News 2005).This will also lead to a health problems as been stated earlier.
Next, fast food packaging is the majority contribution to litter problems(Family Journal 2005).If sells of junk food is banned school groundsmen does not have to spend so long cleaning the grounds and thus they can concentrate on maintanence project which benefit the school itself(Green 2005).Also,the litter from junk food have caused the cleaning cost to increase also it reflects a bad image of the community.
In a nut shell,I strongly believed that the selling of junk food should be banned as this step can help to reduce many problems like health, behaviour and litter.Students can improve their self and also the environment if they can cut down their in take on junk food.
